My name is and will always be Andrea Allen (unless I change my mind later)
Just keep in mind that if you have kids, they will have a different last name from yours, unless they have your name, and then your husband loses out (or you go with the double last name for them but that is so unwieldy). When thinking about getting married (no plans yet) I’m not sure I want to change my last name — at least not in my professional life. It sounds like a big, expensive hassle with no reward. What’s the point?
I think I feel threatened by the idea of giving up something I’ve associated with my identity for my entire life. I mean, you have to learn a new signature and everything. You might as well change the lines on your hands in my opinion.
And no giving in with hyphenating, either. Andrea Allen 4 evah.
Of course, it may also happen that you take his name, have kids, divorce and then marry someone else. Then they would also have a different last name from yours. ahem.
